In the orgy instructions, I ask guys not to arrive drunk. I know it can be tempting - people are a bit nervous and a drink will help.

There was a guy at the orgy on Saturday who seemed to be a bit drunk/high. I didn't really notice on arrival, but it became more noticeable that his behaviour was odd as the evening went on. I don't know if it was drink or if he was high on something.

The point is that it does not add to anyone's enjoyment of an orgy when you are drunk. Either your enjoyment or that of the other guys. His conversation was noticeably odd and commented on by a number of guys, he was spaced out wanking on his own alot and he was very wobbly on his feet. It's not an attractive combination.

I regret not asking him to leave, but for various reasons I did not. I had concerns that he was going to be the last to leave, especially when there were only about 8 guys left on the night. Ok, the decision has been made and I've sent the invites out for the October orgy. It takes ages to decide on the final list and send the invites out. I had 98 suitable guys on the list and I have sent the invite out to 67 guys on that list (with a view to having 25-30 guys on the night).

So how do I try and ensure that the guys who attend are sociable?

Messages

Although I don't 'chat' with most guys - there is an exchange of messages with the guys who apply. You may have worked out from the blog that I paste these message exchanges to 'notes' to refer to in the future.

If a guy is interested then I ask them to send me an email address and I will add them to the list. Lots of guys then reply with another@hotmail.co.uk with nothing else. No 'thanks', no 'I'm looking forward to it'. As an indication of whether we will get on, I take that as a no!

It's not just for my benefit - it's for the benefit of all the guys at the orgy. It makes it more enjoyable for all and thankfully, with these completely unscientific methods, it seems to have worked to date.

If you have been before

Remember that you need to apply to every orgy that you want to come to. I was chatting to a guy who had been before and asked why he wasn't coming to the September orgy. He told me that he didn't realise he had to ask.

There have been too many guys attending in the past for me to send invites out to each of them. I do remind guys in the post orgy message that they should apply for future orgies if they want to come.

If you have not been before

1. Please ensure that you have clear FACE pics in your profile or attached to a message. As a general rule, if I am more likely to pick you out from a crowd because of your ass or cock, you have got the balance wrong. In fact, cock/ass pics aren't even needed!

My rule of thumb is -could I pick you out in a crowd? And secondly, would I pick you out in a crowd!

If someone is suitable for the orgy, I send them a message with some details and request an email address if they are interested.

My best estimate is that 75% of guys respond with an email address and so get onto the long list.

Once i send the invite, the response rate to that is about 50%. I mark profiles who have not responded to the initial message or the invite with an unhappy face, so that I can keep track if someone asks again. (There are currently 427 profiles marked like this!).

I don't mind people not responding. I have to say no to alot of profiles, so I'm happy when I get a no from someone else. I prefer enthusiastic attendance to forced participation!

I've given up trying to predict who will respond to the message or invite and who will not. A profile of an exceptionally handsome guy will say yes and a profile which I was unsure about will say no.
Guys who have messaged me before the invites are sent, saying how excited they are about coming, will not respond and guys who are a bit muted in their communications will respond.

However, looking back at some of the profiles which have not responded, I am sometimes surprised - firstly, that I said yes in the first place and secondly that they didn't jump at the chance!

I dread the question, 'Could you tell me why you've turned me down?' It's often followed by the promise, 'Tell me honestly, I won't be annoyed.'

This is a tricky question to answer. I really don't want to offend anyone. In fact I try to be polite at all times, what ever the provocation. So how do you answer this question?!

When there is an obvious reason I will give it e.g. if the profile does not have safe sex always, has no detail on their profile or no face pics. A number of guys ask me how much it is to attend Islingtonorgy. The answer is nothing. It's free. It's not a commercial venture, I do it for fun - for the guys who attend and, of course, for myself.

At the May orgy, one of the guys attending was telling me that I should ask people for a contribution as I have to pay out for condoms, lube and beer. I just don't feel comfortable asking for money - in my mind it would push the orgy from being a bit of fun to being a commercial venue where I had an obligation to people.

About 15 minutes into the action, I realised it just wasn't working for me. If my life was a movie (which I often imagine it is), this would be the moment of breakthrough, where I see the error of my ways and turn back to the path of righteousness. My realisation wasn't as black-and-white as that. By the time I made it to the engagement party, the whole evening had become an anecdote, complete with punchline, that I enjoyed entertaining and pseudo-shocking my liberal straight friends with. With enough fine-tuning, the most awful of evenings can become a cocktail party filler. This is one of my coping mechanisms - to take life's lemons and turn it into comic lemonade, and hopefully still be able to laugh at myself.

So what, if anything, did I learn from this slap-and-tickle session? Well for starters, I'd definitely recommend Mr Orgy's gatherings to any other horny boy-next-door types who are keen to play nude Twister with strangers on their weekends. I'm vaguely reassured that, as our host proved, humour and good sense can co-exist along with a good hard spit-roasting. And I'm also pleased to report that public transport in North London is frequent and reliable, despite Tube repairs. With the benefit of hindsight and a freshly laundered pair of pants, I can happily admit that had I left some of my neuroses at the door and "mucked in" a little more enthusiastically with the rest, I may have had more fun and not been left crying at the bus stop. Then again, maybe I needed to. A wise (if somewhat depressing) friend of mine once told me that I have rivers more to cry yet before my lifespan is over, with a bit more laughter thrown in as well. So, maybe I should look on this as a cheap alternative to therapy, and get on with crying me a river.

Maybe I'll make it back to the orgy. Maybe I'll fall in love with a hairy-chested neurosurgeon and become a trophy wife. Maybe I'll move to New York and become a pole dancer. Maybe I'll become a Proustian recluse and sleep in a cork-lined room and collect my pee in milk bottles. Who can tell?

I was a little concerned that there would be alot of guys not turning up because of London Pride - but that wasn't the case. I suppose the weather helped.

A few letters in the months edition of Attitude about the article on orgies (that's two months in a row I've bought it!)

Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of an orgy. It's not something I struggle with - as far as I'm concerned, you can never have too much sex.

One of the letters encourages Attitude to put forward the message, 'Don't fuck around' and it's not a good idea to suggest that everyone goes to sex parties as there is no such thing as completely safe sex.

I try to create an atmosphere which is friendly and inclusive. I know that it can be a little nerve wracking for guys attending and so I aim to ensure no-one feels excluded.

A couple of people have asked me about the Twister comment in a previous post, so I shall elaborate.

When I first started Islingtonorgy, I wondered how to start the orgy off. At the first one (3rd Feb 2006!), there were 16 guys. We played spin the bottle which led to some snogging and soon got things going. It was pretty impromptu but did the trick.

I thought about how to start the second one off and saw some Twister duvet covers online. So, I bought a couple of them. They come with soft 'dice' with the usual left hand, right hand, left foot and right foot and the four colours.

There were 20 guys at the next one. We got 10 guys in their underwear to play a couple of rounds. The other 10 guys then joined in, but their instructions are slightly different. Left hand onto someone's arse, right hand onto someone's cock (both on top of their pants of course!). A couple more rounds for the first 10 and then back to the the other guys. Left hand arse, right hand cock (inside the pants this time).

Anyway, people were soon ignoring the instructions (don't you hate it when people don't stick to the rules). Everyone were winners and there were no losers at this game. It started things off really well I thought. But I love games!

At the next one there were 27 guys (can you see the pattern here). It was at this orgy that I enforced the 'strip to pants on arrival' rule. 27 guys in their pants in my lounge. Twister wasn't really needed!

Since then, they have started organically without any need for games.

But at the March orgy, it took a long time to begin, so I reintroduced the Twister idea in May and I thoroughly enjoyed it (I throw the dice so get to watch - I want to play!).

I shall play it by ear at future orgies, but I always have Twister up my sleeve.

The writer attended a couple of orgies. He describes the smell in one as sweat, poppers, bleachy spunk smell and bottomy odour (not exactly shit but not exactly not shit either). Yikes. This reminds me why I run my own orgies rather than risk these conditions at someone elses.

Now that I have a blog, the guys who have confirmed seem to be using it to get information on the orgy. Because I haven't posted for a few days, I have had a couple of messages asking if it's still going ahead. It's definitely going ahead on Saturday - there are still 38 guys confirmed, no-one has cancelled (yet!).

I've never had to cancel an orgy, but it's always something I worry about. In fact, I thought I may have to cancel this one last week due to some family issues. Thankfully that hasn't been necessary.

It's important to me to ensure that this orgy has a reputation for being reliable - both in terms of sticking to the arranged dates and maintaining the quality of the evening. The invites for May 12th have now gone out. I have sent the invitation to 60 guys.

At this point I am a little nervous about the question people now ask - 'What if they all came?'

Well, it would be unfeasible, but I know from experience that this is the number of guys I have to invite to ensure 20-30 guys on the night. I'll keep you up to date with how the numbers progress. I ask the guys to respond to the invite by Saturday 5th May. This gives me a good idea about the numbers 1 week in advance.

The question I get between now and the evening of the orgy is - surely you could squeeze one more in, you will get some people not turning up.

You can see that I really do factor in the no show element! As tempting as it sometimes is to try and sqeeze in another hot guy who applies, I'm afraid I have to be strong and say no.

When this blog was on gaydar, there was a restricted audience - only those involved in beta testing. Now it's here, anyone can see it, and hopefully enjoy it.

This site has useful information compared to the gaydar blogs. I can actually see how many people have read it and lots of interesting stuff in graphs which will need a little interpretation!

36 guys have confirmed for Sat, so definitely full. I ask guys to confirm by the Sat before - but there are always a couple who try to confirm after this. It really does get full by the week before. Additionally, my thinking is that if guys can't confirm by the week before (with a weeks notice) then they are less lkely to attend.

I've now sent the invites for the March 31st orgy. They seem to come around very quickly, although I get a number of mails saying I should hold them more often.

It takes quite a while settling on the final invite list and sending the invites - and I'm trying to spend less time administering this orgy.

As part of that drive - I have been leaving the profile in chat for a week at a time and marking the profile as 'away from comp'. At the end of the week, I deal with all the messages.

I have noticed in the blogs, some people who are annoyed with this 'absenteeism' in the chat rooms - but the alternative is logging on and 'spamming' which I think is probably more annoying. So apologies if I'm being a public nuisance!

Anyway - the latest method seems to be working and at the end of the week I have between 70 and 100 messages to deal with! Which takes a bit of time in itself - but hey, that's what I'm here for.

Imitation, that is. I'm aware of people getting annoyed when others use their photos - pretending to be who they are not.

I've never heard of anyone plagiarising the text of someone else's profile before.

HOWEVER - in my quest to keep up to date with the orgies of the UK, I have come across a couple of profiles:

25 guys attended last night - that's a good number; more than that and it's just a bit too crowded. Six guys confirmed but did not attend (which is normal - but I still think it's a bit rude!) And 3 of them had been before!! Oh well.

Readable, reliable profiles

I think I must be one of the few people to really read the details of profiles. It's the only information I have to be able to assess if someone would be suitable.
When the profile is completely blank it doesn't really give me anything to go on. I take a measured risk in inviting people into my home and I do try and ensure that any nutters are screened out. I think you can tell from a considered profile if someone is a genuine and a sane guy.

If someone asks to come and I say no because they have no descriptions on their profiles, they invariably say (you can guess) .. 'What do you want to know?'
Well, I want to know how you would describe yourself if you were to put some thought and effort into your profile!

Luckily there are lots of great profiles out there that make me smile and make me want to meet the guy it describes. I've been very lucky with the guys who have attended - no nutters yet (a couple of strange guys perhaps, but harmless!).

And one last thing about profiles - if you're thinking of applying - please read this one (www.gaydar.co.uk/islingtonorgy), I try to describe how to apply, what it's about etc - so questions about the basics are always answered with, 'Have you read the profile?'.

I held the first orgy on Fri 3rd Feb 2006 - so it's the first anniversary of Islingtonorgy.

I've held 8 since then and have had 189 profiles attend (which equates to about 200 individuals as some profiles are couples). The average age of the guys is 29.99 (thank heaven for spreadsheets) - at least that's based on the ages on the profiles!

I started them as I wanted to attend a good quality, well organised orgy - and I knew the demand was there in London. However, I had been to a couple of really bad ones which were a little excrutiating. The demand is definitely there in London, so I don't know why more people don't hold them (the group room is a hive of inactivity!).

Anyway, I remember the first one well - obviously nervous beforehand - but the guys were all great and there was a relaxed atmosphere. I've continued to place as much emphasis on the social skills of the guys attending as well as their looks; well, as much as I can judge from a profile.

I send the invites 2 weeks before the orgy and I ask guys to confirm by the week before. This ensures that I get a good idea of numbers.

I don't expect any sympathy - but it is difficult to finalise the invite list.

I have sent invites to 60 guys (56 profiles). 25-30 is the final number of people I am aiming for. It has been tough cutting the list down – I took details of 88 suitable guys! Perhaps I should hold these more often.

I do feel bad about those who are not on the invite list, but I can't invite too many or my flat would collapse!

I always worry about numbers, but after holding 8 of these, I have a general idea of how many will respond, turn up etc.

At the December orgy I took details of 86 profiles and I invited 60. 13 did not respond, 11 could not come/cancelled, 7 confirmed and did not turn up and 29 guys attended.

One of the key skills of running this orgy is organisation - the gaydar features help. I use notes to record messages and thoughts, symbols to indicate whether I have sent messages or don't want to invites someone and friends/favourites to mark those who have been and those who have been invited.

As the orgy has been going for a year and I get alot of messages, this helps me keep track of individuals.

I don't think people expect me to remember who they are - I get guys who have sent me abusive messages asking to come to the orgy, i get people saying that they have been to a previous orgy and can they come again (erm - i have no record of inviting you!).
