What's your flava?

Someone posted a comment asking what my definition of 'vanilla' is.

It's a good question and one that I get asked quite a bit. It's one of those phrases that you assume everyone knows, but this isn't the case. Additionally, the word seems to mean different things to different people.

So what does it mean with respect to Islingtonorgy?

A search on the internet defines 'vanilla sex' as what a culture regards as standard or conventional sexual behaviour. Hmm, I'm on rocky ground already, as I don't think a gay orgy is really regarded as coventional sexual behaviour (yet).

Wikipedia acknowledges that different cultures, subcultures, and individuals have different ideas about what constitutes this type of sex. And I think the sort of sex that happens here is fairly conventional in gay circles. Sucking, wanking, kissing, fucking, frottage (look it up - nothing to do with cheese).

Double penetration, spit roasting, bukkake (cumming on a guys face) and (what do you call it when someone is fucking a guy who is fucking another guy - is it a bus queue?) are things that also happen here.

I saw a guy take a guy's load in his mouth and then he snogged (I love the word snog) the guy who came in his mouth - sharing the cum between them. The guy was a bit surprised - the look on his face was hysterical. Apparently that's a snowball!

What Islingtonorgy is not about is BDSM (bondage/discipline/dominance/submission/sadism/masochism). It's not about leather or slings or pain or blood or piss or shit. And it's not about bareback.

Islingtonorgy is also about having a fun time - talking to guys, having a drink, having a laugh and keeping my flat clean :-)

Vanilla may be my sexual preference, but if you're buying me a cornet then Phish food and rocky road are my vices.

Thanks Tonsev, much appreciated.

Boring? Get real. Even if someone does not enjoy the orgy (it's not for everyone), the chances of being bored are negligible! Nerve wracking, exciting, overwhelming - these are adjectives that would make sense to me and describe the experience of some.

Anyone who is bored in London is not maling the most of it!

I thought you said it was a safe sex orgy. Taking someone else's cum in your mouth is NOT safe!

Blowjobs are fairly low risk in terms of catching HIV but some men have been infected this way. No one knows exactly how risky sucking cock is, partly because most men who suck cock will also fuck or get fucked as well. Very few men whose only risk is from oral sex have become HIV positive, which leads us to believe that the risk is relatively low, but a few have been infected which indicates that there is some risk. The UK's Health Protection Agency estimates that between 1 – 3% of HIV cases are orally transmitted. It's worth remembering that oral sex is the most frequent of gay sexual acts, so it is significant that relatively so few cases are believed to be as a result of oral sex.

The reason that oral sex is so much safer than getting fucked is that the throat is not as vulnerable to infection as the arse is. Saliva has properties that can disable some infections, including HIV, and so there needs to be quite a lot of HIV present for infection to take place. Also, the mouth and throat are not as efficient at absorbing liquids into the bloodstream as the lining of the arse is. Even if you swallow cum, any HIV that may be there will usually be killed by the strong acids in your stomach.

Although the HIV risk from sucking cock is relatively low, there are ways that you can reduce the risk further. It's extremely unlikely that you could catch HIV from giving someone a blowjob if they don't cum in your mouth. Although there is HIV in the pre-cum of a HIV positive man, there is less than there is in his cum. This is because a man will generally produce more cum than he does pre-cum, and because cum has a higher concentration of HIV than pre-cum. The protective properties in saliva would usually be able to disable the amount of HIV that there is in pre-cum. A condom, used correctly, will prevent either cum or pre-cum getting in the mouth, although few gay men in the UK currently use condoms for oral sex.

You will be more vulnerable to infections if you have bleeding, scratched or damaged gums, mouth ulcers or a sore throat. People with gum disease or ulcers will be more likely to catch HIV or other infections from oral sex. It may be wise to avoid brushing your teeth just before giving someone a blowjob, particularly if you want him to cum in your mouth. Using a mouthwash before or immediately after oral sex will remove the protective properties that saliva contains and so may increase the risk of transmission.
